Maldives Moments: Team Travel Promoters explore Cocoon Collection
Rosanna and Laura share their tips and experiences from their recent Maldives Fam Trip with Cocoon Collection.
Rosanna and Laura share valuable insight into their time at The Cocoon Collection in Maldives:
From the moment we glimpsed those stark white islands scattered across turquoise seas, the Maldives felt like a dream made real. Arriving by seaplane — barefoot pilots, sweeping views, and that adventurous hum of propellers — set the tone for a journey that would be both serene and spirited.
Our itinerary took us across three distinct properties in the Cocoon Collection: Cocoon Maldives, You & Me Maldives, and Joy Island. Each offered its own rhythm, its own soul — and together, they revealed the diversity and depth of what the Maldives can be.
Cocoon Maldives
Cocoon Maldives is the image that springs to mind when you picture the Maldives: turquoise waters, endless white sand, and palm-covered walkways that frame the beach like a painting. It’s barefoot luxury at its most authentic — relaxed, refined, and quietly confident.
The vibe is beautifully balanced between calm and play. Couples will find tucked-away corners for romance, while families can enjoy the lively energy of the island’s social spaces. The Kiddies Cove is a standout — well-run, welcoming, and even offers babysitting.
Visually, the island is stunning. With 7.2 hectares of beach, there’s space to breathe. Egg chairs nestled in the palms at the island’s tip invite you to pause and take it all in. The staff know the island like the back of their hand, and the service is warm, intuitive, and never intrusive.
Signature experience? The Japanese Corner — a hands-on cooking experience that was as fun as it was delicious. We flipped, stirred, and tasted our way through a meal that felt both personal and celebratory.
Trade takeaway: Cocoon is the Maldives as you imagine it — traditional, timeless, and beautifully designed.
You & Me Maldives
You & Me is the quiet soul of the Cocoon Collection. The smallest of the three islands, it’s adult-only and wrapped in a slower, more intimate pace. Think sandy walkways, lush foliage, and rustic elegance — thatched roofs, wooden frames, and sand underfoot in the restaurants.
It’s ideal for couples celebrating something special, but also for solo travellers or groups of friends seeking connection and calm.
Standout for this property - The H2O underwater restaurant is a showstopper — a 5- or 7-course sensory feast beneath the sea.
Service here is polished yet relaxed. Staff are composed, friendly, and deeply attentive. You’re looked after from the moment you arrive, and the atmosphere is one of ease and grace.
Trade takeaway: For a romantic, rustic, and elegantly nurtured escape, You & Me is a perfect fit — especially for clients seeking something quieter and more refined.
Joy Island
Joy is exactly that — joyful. It’s vibrant, social, and full of energy, but never overwhelming. The island is cleverly designed with both lively and quiet zones, including a silent beach with no Wi-Fi or music for those craving stillness.
It’s a great fit for couples, families, and solo travellers alike. The décor is bright and playful in the overwater villas, while the beach villas are nestled in foliage with darker woods and a more grounded feel — a lovely contrast.
Signature moments? Snorkelling from the beach was unexpectedly brilliant, and the Palm Bar staff were a highlight — remembering orders, crafting new drinks, and bringing a sense of fun to every interaction.
Service here is chatty, relaxed, and full of personality. You feel looked after, but also part of the island’s rhythm.
Trade takeaway: Joy’s proximity to Malé makes it incredibly accessible, and its vibe — friendly, beautiful, and full of flavour — is a winner. And yes, the pizza really is that good.
Travel Promoters Tip
When selling the Maldives, ask your clients what truly matters to them. Is it the distance to/from Male and are they comfortable on a seaplane or speedboat? Is it the personalised service, the size of the island or the age demographic? Would they prefer an over water villa or the foliaged privacy of a beachfront suite?
Many properties offer similar activities, but what sets the Cocoon Collection apart is the service — warm, personal, and joyfully consistent across every island. The staff are radiant, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in each guest’s experience. That’s hard to replicate — and it’s what makes Cocoon a confident recommendation for any traveller.

A new luxury lodge opening in Zambia’s South Luangwa
Travel Promoters are thrilled to welcome their newest partnership and a new opening for the South Luangwa Valley.
OPENING 2026 - CARMINE’S RIVER LODGE
OPENING JUNE 2026
Travel Promoters are delighted to have been appointed to oversee the trade sales & marketing for what promises to be one of Zambia’s most exciting new lodge openings of the coming year - Carmine’s River Lodge in the South Luangwa Valley. The lodge’s avian name is a celebration of the property’s unique location which is home to the World’s largest Carmine Bee Eater colony, located directly opposite the lodge on the Luangwa Wafwa.
“The Art of Nesting, Perfected” – your new home in the heart of the wild.
Opening in June 2026, this intimate, luxury, family-owned lodge boasts an enviable island location, between two rivers, on 54 acres of private land. Less than 10 minutes’ drive, via a neighbouring pontoon, into the South Luangwa National Park and 20 minutes to the Nsefu Game Reserve. Located within the Valley of the Leopards, a natural wildlife corridor, teeming with game including elephant, big cats as well as wild dogs, all of which and more, thrive in this unspoilt region.
Carmine’s River Lodge is set to deliver a serene, exclusive and individually tailored guest experience. Initially catering for just 12 guests (18 with additional beds) across 3 superbly appointed two-bedroomed villas, each elevated and tucked between ancient 20-foot Ebony trees and strategically spaced to not only minimise footprint and disturbance to wildlife but capitalise on the lodge’s prime water facing location overlooking the Msandile river.
Guests can expect an eco-conscious design throughout, a thoughtful blend of contemporary elegance and cutting-edge convenience, fused with a relaxing and welcoming warmth, introduced through locally crafted furniture and materials, Zambian made fittings and hand-selected antiques. The villas are designed to take in the views at every angle and opportunity. A private retreat measuring just under 240 square meters with elegant central living and bar area overlooking your private deck and plunge pool beyond, flanked by two spacious identical bedrooms, each with sumptuous freestanding bath and unique indoor/outdoor fully glazed opening ‘infinity’ shower.
One of the three villas is fully equipped and accessible for guests that may have mobility challenges, offering a lift instead of a ramp as well as direct, level access to all the main areas.
A personal host or Munyanu (“friend” in local Kunda tribe dialect) will ensure an attentive and effortless guest experience and your private, qualified and highly experienced guide will conduct game activities in new, custom built 6-seater game vehicles. Each villa will have an additional, 2nd enclosed vehicle solely for the purpose of private transfers.
Such is the attention to detail that each of the 3 villas and game vehicles will be paired through their shared avian name; Owl, Hamerkop & Kingfisher. Paying homage, in addition to the lodge’s name, to the rich bird population in the area.
Conservation friendly ‘red light’ night & ‘starry night’ drives are planned for those guests with an interest in astronomy and observing predator activity after sunset. Naturally, the lodge would not be complete without walking activities, as this area in known as the birthplace of the African walking safari, a tradition which continues to define this landscape today.
Canon camera equipment is planned and will be available, on loan, to guests. The main lodge includes a photographic studio, media room which will also double as an educational space. Children are welcome at Carmine’s River Lodge, with dedicated activities available.
The Boma and fire pit will take centre stage in the main lodge area, alongside the infinity swimming pool, indoor and outdoor dining areas, elegant bar, wine room and boutique. Other facilities will include a fully equipped gym and in-room spa treatments will be available to pre-book.
A fully equipped catering kitchen, separate pastry kitchen as well as halal kitchen are planned. Construction of an animal proof greenhouse will enable the lodge to grow fresh ‘farm to table’ ingredients and ensure chef & his team delivers food that is of an all-important, exceptional quality.
Committed to sustainable operations, Carmine’s River Lodge is designed to operate 100% on solar power with backup systems for emergencies only. A full water filtration plant as well as the use of recyclable and biodegradable amenities throughout, will ensure that the lodge remains environmentally focussed.
Access is via a 70-minute flight from Lusaka to Mfuwe and then a +/-50-minute road transfer to the lodge.
We will be distributing rates, fact sheets and further literature in the coming weeks, but if you are eager to learn more or have a booking enquiry, in the meantime, please email the Travel Promoters’ team by clicking the button above.

Sala Beach House - Awarded 5 Star Premium Status
We are excited to share that Sala Beach House has just earned one of South Africa’s most prestigious travel accolades and we are so extremely proud of them!
Sala Beach House — an intimate boutique retreat resting above the blue fag beach of Thompson’s Bay — has been awarded 5-Star Premium status by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA).
This is no ordinary recognition - this grading takes 5 Star to the next level up and Sala Beach House is now one of only 23 properties in the country to hold this distinction — and the very first boutique beachfront retreat in KwaZulu-Natal to do so.
What Makes 5-Star Premium So Special?
The TGCSA’s 5-Star Premium status is the gold standard of hospitality in South Africa. Introduced in 2019, it’s reserved for establishments that represent the pinnacle of luxury, offering not just impeccable facilities but also service that goes above and beyond. Properties must be re-evaluated annually, ensuring they consistently meet — and exceed — these world-class standards.
Inside Sala Beach House

Looking for a Family Friendly Walking Safari?
Lalibela Wildlife Reserve offers a family friendly walking safari experience to compliment your clients’ safari.
Immersive Soft Walking Safaris for the Whole Family
If your clients are asking for a safari that’s immersive but not intense, Lalibela Wildlife Reserve in South Africa’s Malaria Free Eastern Cape offers a gentle alternative: soft walking safaris with plains game, (non predator walks) designed with families in mind.
These guided bush walks aren’t about looking for big game on foot—they’re about slowing down, tuning in, and experiencing the wild in a way that’s safe, educational, and surprisingly tranquil. Think giraffes in the distance, fresh tracks in the sand, and guides who know how to make every moment engaging for both kids and adults.
So what does a typical walk look like?
Guests set out in the early morning or late afternoon, when temperatures are mild and wildlife is most active. Walks are kept to a manageable 1–2 hours, covering flat terrain with frequent stops for storytelling, tracking, and observation. Guides carry radios and rifles for safety, but the focus is on quiet connection—not confrontation.
Children might be invited to identify spoor (tracks), learn how to spot a dung beetle rolling, which they find fascinating, or listen for the call of a distant fish eagle. Adults might find interest in medicinal plants, termite mounds, or the signs that reveal animals passed through earlier. It’s a sensory experience—smelling leaves, touching bark, hearing the sounds of the bushveld and your footsteps.
Walks are tailored to suit different age, energy levels and interests. Some families prefer a short loop near the lodge, while others opt for a slightly longer route that ends with a scenic lookout or bush coffee stop. The pace is gentle, and the emphasis is always on safety, curiosity, and shared discovery.
For agents looking to offer clients a safari that’s both enriching and accessible, Lalibela’s soft walking safaris are a standout option. It’s a chance for families to connect—with nature, with each other, and with a slower rhythm that’s easy to fall in love with.

Ailsa’s Visit to Lemala Wildwaters in Uganda
Join us for the next Q&Z with Ailsa, where she recounts her unforgettable experience at Wildwaters Lodge, nestled along the mighty Nile in Uganda.
Lemala Wildwaters, Uganda
Piki piki adventures, go ahead - jump & there’s nothing ‘fowl’ about my Guinea..
After a relaxing and refreshing night at Hemmingways in Nairobi, it was a short 1 hour flight from Nairobi to Entebbe. I was met by my guide from Speke Uganda Holidays, our DMC partners in Uganda and Rwanda…
A quick, but valuable catch up with Tony and his fabulous team at Speke head office Kampala, and it was onwards to Wildwaters. On paper the journey is around 2.5 hours, but ‘life’ in Kampala and the surrounds has an energy that makes you feel as if you have been thrown into the opening scene of a blockbuster movie. Peak traffic combined with true rural roads and pot holes that would make any mechanic weep and axel manufacturers jump for joy, meant it took longer. But the company of my guide, the ever smiling and waving children on the roadside and a stop to buy the best and most bananary tasting bananas in all of banana land meant it was all part of the complete Uganda experience and I was loving it!
First impressions of Lemala Wildwaters?
The road became truly rural and I caught a teasing glimpse of the river as we approached the gate to access the crossing, but nothing prepared me for my first full view. Lemala Wildwaters truly does sit small and firm slap bang in the middle of the Nile, with rapids rolling and barrelling all around it. Two of the team were ready with the island’s traditional style boat, complete with powerful engine and lifejackets. They manoevered the boat with skill and ease, knowing exactly the perfect path of calm water to navigate and glide me and my luggage, the 3 minute crossing to the lodge!
What did you think of the lodge?
Easy, this could be summarised in a bumper sticker ‘I love Wildwaters’.
From the winding network of raised platform paths that snake around the island North to South, East to West (Wildwaters is actually divided by a stream and inlets of water from the surrounding river) to the way each space is designed to maximise the drama of it’s location.
The main area captures views from every angle of the rushing water and rapids. The pool’s edge almost connects the river and lodge – it’s no wonder this lodge is a regular feature in ‘most instagrammable’ places.
The food was out of this world, the menu extensive. Robert, the GM and his team quickly became our friends and happy hosts.
The rooms offer an air conditioned cocoon with a personal choice of river calming noise cancelling doors ‘open or closed’ – for me it was open, all the way – who doesn’t love the sound of the Nile River sweeping past, whilst you drift to sleep in cool, crisp freshly laundered bedsheets… take me back !
Top Tips?
1) Book a spa treatment – I guarantee there are few massage bed locations in the world to beat this one!
2) If you can, stretch the budget a little further for one of the two rooms that has a private plunge pool (as well as the outdoor bath that all rooms have). It has to be the ultimate ‘look at me’ selfie and one to frame when you are home. These rooms also offer in room dining as an additional benefit… honeymooners and romantics rejoice.
3) Take a trip to the ‘source of the Nile’ – a physical location (a platform actually in the middle of the river) a short drive and then boat trip away.
4) Go rafting … the ‘family’ raft is the easiest and still gives the thrills.
Who do you think Wildwaters is best suited to?
Honeymooners, couples and friends wanting to retreat – due to the nature and location, Wildwaters is suitable for adults or older teenagers only.
What was a highlight?
Visiting the numerous community projects that Lemala Wildwaters supports – we took Piki Piki bikes or Boda Bodas. If you imagine a cross between a hell’s angel gang and an outing from an old people’s home you will have a close mental image of how we ventured out that day, riding pillion with our local guides. It was captivating and humbling to learn about the small-scale coffee farmers, pineapple plantation, vanilla pod growers, basket weaving grandmother and other community initiatives that Lemala can support thanks to guests. Lemala has provided power to the entire local village and the community committee gathered to thank us. For me William, the potter had incredible talent and consequently I am the proud owner of two pottery guinea fowl adorning my windowsill at home!
Anything that surprised you?
Jump ! Across the river from Wildwaters at ‘Adrift’ is Uganda’s highest bungee… it’s a piece of cake, safety briefing and serious checks take 30 minutes, then a quick skip up the 6 stories, harness checked again, 3, 2, 1 ‘plop’… I jumped. If you have read and followed this far, you don’t know me that well and I love you for having belief in me, but not… a …. chance.
I did watch a colleague make the brave leap and I offered up suitably loud words of encouragement and congratulations. Wish I was that brave, or agile.

This strategic expansion marks Lemala’s entry into Kenya, enhancing its regional footprint and reinforcing its commitment to preserving the character, culture, and conservation value of East Africa’s diverse landscapes.

Lemala is also pleased to continue its collaboration with Barry McGonigle, Tulia’s founder and a long-standing resident of Amboseli. Barry remains active in the area, operating Kilimanjaro Balloon Safaris, one of the region’s leading aerial experiences.

Ailsa’s Visit to Sirikoi, Kenya
Join us for the second of our Q&Z sessions with Ailsa as she chats about her recent trip to Sirikoi Lodge in Kenya.
Sirikoi, Lewa Conservancy, Kenya
What happened to the gin bottle? My morning intruder & the Northern Five …
For the next session in our Q&A series with Ailsa, we chat about the 2nd stop on her journey - to Sirikoi Lodge in the Lewa Conservancy. Known for their eco-conscious ethos, exceptional blend of luxury, conservation, and immersive wildlife experiences.
Set in an exceptional location, surrounded by 68,000 acres of the pure wilderness of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, an award-winning model for community conservation. With just 4 luxury tented suites, the two bedroomed Sirikoi Cottage and the larger 3 bedroomed Sirikoi House, it is easy to see why Sirikoi has scooped award upon award over the years. In fact, just this April Ailsa collected 2 awards on behalf of Sirikoi at The Safari Awards at Indaba. Best Safari Experience & Best Family Safari Experience, Kenya.
Ailsa, what were your first impressions of the Lewa region?
I arrived into Lewa by road and left by air… the journey by car from Ol Lentille and Laikipia to the conservancy is not one that many will make, but it is certainly possible, gives you an insight into distances and local life and took around 4 hours including a coffee break. Did you know Kenya and Tanzania produce many of the cut flowers used around the world? I didn’t until I saw the swathes of greenhouses and flower farms as we ‘hit the road’ North from Nanyuki to Lewa. Lewa the region was looking green & fresh as they had some early rain a day or two earlier and the conservancy was already showing it’s appreciation with long lush grass sprouting. It was a minute or maybe two, from the main gate when the reserve road gave way to open plains full of healthy herds of game and my first sighting of two of the Northern Five (unique to Northern Kenya) – Grevy’s Zebra & reticulated giraffe… it was clear from the outset that game viewing was going to be easy pickings in Lewa and my 2 nights produced all of the Northern Five, plus Cape Eland, Buffalo, Leopard, Lion, Elephant, Black and White Rhino, Burchell and Grevy’s Zebra, Grants Gazelle, Leopard Tortoise, Striped Hyena, Ostrich and more!
What did you think of Sirikoi?
Ngilla, my guide gave me some insight into Sirikoi and its backstory during our game drive from the main gate to the lodge. Just 5 lodges share access to the 62,000 acre reserve, so already I felt privileged. Sirikoi feels opulent, luxurious, but homely. Remaining true to its history and founders, Willie and Sue Roberts, pioneers with a passion for conservation and community. At Sirikoi 4 things truly matter, the guests, conservation, community and sustainability (including their environmental impact).
But it has to be the location of Sirikoi, along the banks of Sirikoi stream feeding the watering hole that grabs your attention as soon as you enter the main sitting room, looking out over the deck to the plains beyond. The Lewa Conservancy is a vital wildlife corridor so daily game sightings from the lodge or lawn are almost guaranteed.
The service and offering at Sirikoi is a finely oiled wheel, traditional and natural. It was clear from the outset that this team have been operating together, successfully for many, many years. I had a reassuring sense that each team member not only loves their job but shares a passion to deliver a faultless experience during my stay in a relaxing and easy manner.
I stayed in one of the luxury tents with a brick-built shower and freestanding Victorian bathroom adding an extra luxurious touch. For me, nothing beats returning to the glow of a fire to keep you toasty under canvas, as the temperature dips along with the sun.
One night an Owl waited for me in the tree by my tent and kept watch, but it was the next morning I was aware, in half broken slumber, that the team had already dropped off my morning hot drinks tray and muffin (along with my own Sirikoi thermal cup – nice touch) when I heard the zipper rise to my tent again… Turns out the monkeys like a morning muffin too, but luckily when there is a muffin at stake, I am faster than even I knew possible as I hit the floor running in the ‘great muffin race across the room’
Any Top Tips?
1) Sirikoi has the most impressive organic kitchen garden, tended by 9 staff… over an acre and growing (pardon the pun), there is little to nothing they don’t grow bringing fresh vegetables, herbs, fruit and flowers to the lodge daily as well as medicinal plants to make their own organic pesticides. Wormery to create compost, bee hives, chickens and even a BSF (black soldier fly) enclosure (those suckers love the leftover meat and other non-compostable edibles), meaning zero kitchen waste!
2) Include the entire back of house tour – as members of ‘The Long Run’ Sirikoi recycle, re-use and repurpose almost everything and handle 100% of their own waste. One team member proudly showed me how his work is to turn old alcohol and glass bottles (Bombay Sapphire was a personal favourite, not to drink but to see what they made from the bottle) into beautiful drinking tumblers and vases that adorn the lodge (even glass that can’t be reused, is ground down for use in building sand) The lodge runs100% on solar power with an impressive battery invertor room. All water is gravity fed from a natural spring to the lodge. Sustainable practices include an impressive purpose-built game vehicle washing station that reuses the water 3 times from kitchen to vehicle cleaning and finally on to irrigation. It is beyond impressive…
3) Visit the Lewa Conservancy Head Office and learn about the 24/7 work that goes into monitoring and conserving. Interesting fact: Paul Allen, one of the co-founders of Microsoft, visited Lewa in 2013 and gifted the Earth Ranger software used to this day.
4) Leave room in your luggage – the lodge shop is too much to resist.
5) Make time to enjoy the spa and newly completed sauna. The massages are amazing!
Who do you think this sort of holiday is best suited to?
Anyone from 1 to 100 yrs old. Families, honeymooners, singles and celebrations big or small. Guests that want to experience an uncrowded big 5 safari, but also with the added draw of the ‘Northern 5’ – Lewa has the largest resident population of Grevy’s zebra in the world. Black and white rhino and many other unique species, including our own ‘tame’ Giraffe ‘Ndito’ who often wanders the lawns by day.
What was your biggest highlight?
The organic garden – I can only dream of having the green fingers of George Kaberia, the head groundsman. Step aside Monty Don & Alan Titchmarsh, there’s a new hero in town.
Was there anything that surprised you?
The open-door policy of the lodge back of house operation – guests can visit at any time, proving the authenticity and consistency with all that Maria, the GM and the team at Sirikoi achieve both front and back of house.
Why do you think Sirikoi offers the best possible experience in the region?
Sirikoi’s foundations are as strong as they get, thanks to their owners, Willie and Sue Roberts. Willie was a true pioneer in the conservation and sustainable wildlife/hospitality industry, opening his first lodge at the age of just 19. Instrumental in establishing the Mara Conservancy and one of the greatest ambassadors for wildlife conservation Kenya has ever seen. You simply cannot manufacture a legacy, but you can experience an insight into how far we have come and continue to support it by staying at Sirikoi, it’s as close as you can get.
I waved goodbye to Sirikoi and found a small part of my heart drifting back to the lodge as we drove the short 15 minutes to the Lewa airstrip for my departure to Nairobi Wilson.
Water, Wine and Wellness - it’s all happening in South Africa
We take a look at what’s been happening at Lanzerac, Sala Beach House and Fairlawns in the recent months.
Lanzerac introduces luxury water tasting experiences:
Lanzerac, already a favourite in South African wine, has teamed up with The Fine Water Company to introduce something completely different — The Library, South Africa’s first fine water tasting room.
Yes, you read that right - water tasting!
The Library at Lanzerac
Tucked inside an elegant corner of the estate, this space invites guests to slow down and savour what’s usually overlooked: water. Becoming a new, luxury experience throughout Europe and the US - we are pleased to introduce this unique activity that highlights something normally seen as a necessity - being given the unexcepted attention and appreciation of nature’s ultimate pure hydration.
Guided by Nico Pieterse—one of only two certified water sommeliers in the country — the tastings explore the unique characteristics of six premium waters from around the world. 3 Still water tastings and 3 sparkling water tastings. A few of the waters that guests can expect to taste include: Denmark’s ISKLD, the lightly carbonated Perlaghe from Poland, Peru’s volcanic Socosani, and Armenia’s bold and mineral-rich Jermuk.
Of course, South Africa is represented too, with the locally bottled Mountain Falls.
Exquisite cuisine
Wine and Waves at Sala Beach House:
In June, Sala Beach House hosted two standout wine-and-food evenings that showcased the depth of South African winemaking alongside coastal cuisine.
The first, held on 4 June, featured Klein Constantia, a winery known for its cool-climate elegance. Guests enjoyed four signature wines, including the Blanc de Blanc 2020 and Estate Red Blend 2021, carefully paired with dishes like burrata macarons and truffle short rib—each designed by Executive Chef Shanal Ramroop to highlight the wine’s profile.
On 27 June, Sala welcomed Blankbottle, an unconventional winery led by surfer and winemaker Pieter Walser. His eclectic selection, paired with bold flavours like saffron-truffle smoked salmon and lavender parsnip lamb, invited guests into a more experimental tasting experience.
Both events reflected Sala’s combination of the beauty of the Indian Ocean and perfect hospitality and cuisine for truly special evenings.
Wellness Weekend and Fairlawns Boutique Hotel and Spa:
Healing Earth skincare blending
This July, Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa partnered with Healing Earth to host a serene wellness retreat focused on holistic renewal and the elemental power of fire.
Over three days, guests immersed themselves in a carefully thought-out programme that blended luxury, self-care, and mindful experiences—ranging from sound healing and restorative yoga to bespoke spa treatments and breathwork rituals.
The weekend also featured interactive highlights like a sushi masterclass with Chef Song, skincare blending in the Healing Earth Beauty Kitchen, and a garden-side talk on gut health by Dr Nadine Haberfeld.
Set within the hotel’s tranquil courtyard and Balinese-style spa, the retreat offered guests a chance to recalibrate and reconnect—with themselves and the natural rhythm of wellness.
Lemala Osonjoi Lodge - Now Open!
Lemala Camps and Lodges proudly announce Osonjoi Lodge officially OPEN TODAY !
Reimagining The Safari Model on the Ngorongoro Crater
Travel Promoters is delighted to reveal the first images from the opening of Osonjoi Lodge today !
The latest opening from Lemala Camps & Lodges is its most ambitious yet: a solar-powered, community-driven hideaway that pairs African-alpine design with rare access to the Ngorongoro Crater floor and new multi-day experiences.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tanzania - July 16, 2025 - Lemala Camps and Lodges is proud to officially unveil its latest property Lemala Osonjoi Lodge, a bold new chapter in high-altitude, low-impact travel across East Africa’s most storied terrain. Perched nearly 2,500 meters above sea level on the picturesque eastern rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, the landmark property blends next-generation safari luxury with deep-rooted sustainability and unrivaled access to one of the world’s most celebrated wildlife sanctuaries.
The most exciting new lodge on the Crater rim in more than a decade, Lemala Osonjoi is an instant icon and sets a fresh benchmark for hospitality in East Africa. Conceived in collaboration with local communities and designed to echo the quiet rhythms of the highlands, the lodge is shaped as much by altitude, mist, and moss as by the wildlife below.
“Osonjoi was created to feel like it belongs here, not imposed on the landscape, but emerging naturally from it” says Leanne Haigh, CEO of Lemala Camps & Lodges. “This is a retreat for travellers seeking depth as well as comfort. An experience that is slower, more intuitive, and grounded in place.”
A LOCATION LIKE NO OTHER
Set on the eastern rim of Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater, at nearly 2,500 metres above sea level, Lemala Osonjoi boasts one of the most enviable positions in African safari geography. Just outside the eponymous Lemala Gate, and perched above the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, the lodge offers guests privileged access to one of the most biodiverse, visually spectacular ecosystems on the continent. Guests can reach the Crater floor and its lion prides in just 20 to 25 minutes via the least-used descent road, placing guests among the first to reach the Crater floor each morning, when wildlife sightings are at their peak - and allows for later departure to take advantage of the beautiful evening light, known by the world’s most renowned photographers as Africa’s golden hour. This quieter northeastern quadrant of the Crater is less visited than the western arc and is ideal for photographers and those seeking intimate, unhurried encounters with nature and rare species including black rhino, elephants, and big cats.
Lemala Osonjoi is a sanctuary within a sanctuary, a UNESCO World Heritage Site layered with geological, ecological, and cultural significance. The lodge’s location also allows for an exceptionally rare treat: fully catered private lunches on the Crater floor, transforming a traditional game drive into an immersive, all-day adventure with no need to return to camp.
WHERE ARCHITECTURE MEETS ALTITUDE
Each of the property’s 20 suites, including two two-bedroom family suites, is a celebration of Ngorongoro’s high-altitude beauty. Interiors balance warmth and refinement with hand-finished timbers, pigmented cement, charred wood cladding, and panoramic windows that embrace the region’s cool mountain climate. Thoughtful touches include slow-burning wood stoves, winter-weight duvets, hot water bottles, and a signature “secret nook” daybed tucked beside the fireplace for afternoon reading or a nightcap with views over the forest.
En suite bathrooms offer walk-in showers, freestanding tubs with panoramic views, and double vanities, while the lodge’s central pavilion houses a curated library, and an expansive outdoor deck with a roaring fire and endless sky.
Menus at Osonjoi Lodge celebrate the seasonality of the highlands, while design elements, such as volcanic glassware, handwoven throws, and ceramics crafted by women’s cooperatives embed a tactile sense of place throughout.
BUILT FOR THE FUTURE
More than just a design-forward lodge, Lemala Osonjoi Lodge is a model for regenerative safari tourism. Fully off-grid and powered by solar, the lodge is constructed using recycled and local materials, with no single-use plastics. From the outset, the lodge has prioritized community partnership - working hand in hand with local artisans to design and create décor that reflects the traditions, colors, and textures of East Africa. This approach ensures no displacement, fosters active collaboration with neighboring Maasai villages, and embeds long-term investment in education, local employment, and women’s empowerment.
By encouraging longer, more immersive multi-day stays and helping to disperse visitation across lesser-used access points, Osonjoi Lodge plays a key role in mitigating overtourism in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Guided crater rim walks with Maasai naturalists, wellness treatments, the Crater’s only indoor heated pool in the forest spa suite, and culture-focused programming allow for authentic, layered experiences beyond the safari vehicle.
COMPLETING THE LEMALA CIRCUIT
Osonjoi Lodge completes the Lemala’s Lodge safari circuit through northern Tanzania, linking with Hamerkop House in Arusha, Mpingo Ridge Lodge in Tarangire, and Nanyukie Lodge and Kuria Hills Lodge in the Serengeti. This thoughtfully designed route offers seamless overland or fly-in itineraries, designed for discerning travelers seeking depth, continuity, and minimal environmental impact.
Rates at Lemala Osonjoi Lodge start from $690 (approx. £510 / €590) per person sharing per day, including accommodation, all meals, house drinks, Wi-Fi and laundry. Rates do not include NCAA Entry and Concession Fees, game drives, airstrip transfers, champagne, and premium house drinks, or government levies.
