A new luxury lodge opening in Zambia’s South Luangwa
Travel Promoters are thrilled to welcome their newest partnership and a new opening for the South Luangwa Valley.
OPENING 2026 - CARMINE’S RIVER LODGE
OPENING JUNE 2026
Travel Promoters are delighted to have been appointed to oversee the trade sales & marketing for what promises to be one of Zambia’s most exciting new lodge openings of the coming year - Carmine’s River Lodge in the South Luangwa Valley. The lodge’s avian name is a celebration of the property’s unique location which is home to the World’s largest Carmine Bee Eater colony, located directly opposite the lodge on the Luangwa Wafwa.
“The Art of Nesting, Perfected” – your new home in the heart of the wild.
Opening in June 2026, this intimate, luxury, family-owned lodge boasts an enviable island location, between two rivers, on 54 acres of private land. Less than 10 minutes’ drive, via a neighbouring pontoon, into the South Luangwa National Park and 20 minutes to the Nsefu Game Reserve. Located within the Valley of the Leopards, a natural wildlife corridor, teeming with game including elephant, big cats as well as wild dogs, all of which and more, thrive in this unspoilt region.
Carmine’s River Lodge is set to deliver a serene, exclusive and individually tailored guest experience. Initially catering for just 12 guests (18 with additional beds) across 3 superbly appointed two-bedroomed villas, each elevated and tucked between ancient 20-foot Ebony trees and strategically spaced to not only minimise footprint and disturbance to wildlife but capitalise on the lodge’s prime water facing location overlooking the Msandile river.
Guests can expect an eco-conscious design throughout, a thoughtful blend of contemporary elegance and cutting-edge convenience, fused with a relaxing and welcoming warmth, introduced through locally crafted furniture and materials, Zambian made fittings and hand-selected antiques. The villas are designed to take in the views at every angle and opportunity. A private retreat measuring just under 240 square meters with elegant central living and bar area overlooking your private deck and plunge pool beyond, flanked by two spacious identical bedrooms, each with sumptuous freestanding bath and unique indoor/outdoor fully glazed opening ‘infinity’ shower.
One of the three villas is fully equipped and accessible for guests that may have mobility challenges, offering a lift instead of a ramp as well as direct, level access to all the main areas.
A personal host or Nkhoswe (meaning “brother and protector”) will ensure an attentive and effortless guest experience and your private, qualified and highly experienced guide will conduct game activities in new, custom built 6-seater game vehicles. Each villa will have an additional, 2nd enclosed vehicle solely for the purpose of private transfers.
Such is the attention to detail that each of the 3 villas and game vehicles will be paired through their shared avian name; Owl, Hamerkop & Kingfisher. Paying homage, in addition to the lodge’s name, to the rich bird population in the area.
Conservation friendly ‘red light’ night & ‘starry night’ drives are planned for those guests with an interest in astronomy and observing predator activity after sunset. Naturally, the lodge would not be complete without walking activities, as this area in known as the birthplace of the African walking safari, a tradition which continues to define this landscape today.
Canon camera equipment is planned and will be available, on loan, to guests. The main lodge includes a photographic studio, media room which will also double as an educational space. Children are welcome at Carmine’s River Lodge, with dedicated activities available.
The Boma and fire pit will take centre stage in the main lodge area, alongside the infinity swimming pool, indoor and outdoor dining areas, elegant bar, wine room and boutique. Other facilities will include a fully equipped gym and in-room spa treatments will be available to pre-book.
A fully equipped catering kitchen, separate pastry kitchen as well as halal kitchen are planned. Construction of an animal proof greenhouse will enable the lodge to grow fresh ‘farm to table’ ingredients and ensure chef & his team delivers food that is of an all-important, exceptional quality.
Committed to sustainable operations, Carmine’s River Lodge is designed to operate 100% on solar power with backup systems for emergencies only. A full water filtration plant as well as the use of recyclable and biodegradable amenities throughout, will ensure that the lodge remains environmentally focussed.
Access is via a 70-minute flight from Lusaka to Mfuwe and then a +/-50-minute road transfer to the lodge.
We will be distributing rates, fact sheets and further literature in the coming weeks, but if you are eager to learn more or have a booking enquiry, in the meantime, please email the Travel Promoters’ team by clicking the button above.
Sala Beach House - Awarded 5 Star Premium Status
We are excited to congratulate Sala Beach House in being awarded Five Star Premium Status by South African Tourism Grading Association.
Sala Beach House - Awarded 5 Star Premium Status
We are excited to share that Sala Beach House has just earned one of South Africa’s most prestigious travel accolades and we are so extremely proud of them!
Sala Beach House — an intimate boutique retreat resting above the blue fag beach of Thompson’s Bay — has been awarded 5-Star Premium status by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA).
This is no ordinary recognition - this grading takes 5 Star to the next level up and Sala Beach House is now one of only 23 properties in the country to hold this distinction — and the very first boutique beachfront retreat in KwaZulu-Natal to do so.
What Makes 5-Star Premium So Special?
The TGCSA’s 5-Star Premium status is the gold standard of hospitality in South Africa. Introduced in 2019, it’s reserved for establishments that represent the pinnacle of luxury, offering not just impeccable facilities but also service that goes above and beyond. Properties must be re-evaluated annually, ensuring they consistently meet — and exceed — these world-class standards.
Inside Sala Beach House
Perfectly placed on the Dolphin Coast, Sala Beach House is a sanctuary where every detail has been carefully thought of to create a sense of calm and connection. From its panoramic ocean views and elegantly interiors to the wellness focus and impeccable hospitality, this boutique retreat redefines your average coastal guest house.
Wellness seekers will love the Sala Beach Spa, where expert therapists offer a range of treatments designed to relax and restore. Food lovers are in for a treat too — the seasonal menus showcase fresh, local ingredients, served in an intimate setting that celebrates the natural beauty of the coastline.
Step outside, and you’re just moments from Shaka’s Rock and its protected tidal pool, perfect for a morning dip or a sunset stroll. And beyond its luxurious amenities, Sala Beach House is deeply committed to sustainability, supporting both environmental conservation and local community initiatives.
Why We Love It
Sala Beach House isn’t just a place to stay — it’s a place to slow down, reconnect, and savour the simple pleasures of coastal life. Whether your guests are looking for a romantic getaway, a rejuvenating spa add on to their safari holiday, or simply to soak up the sunshine and beach of the Dolphin Coast, this award-winning retreat promises an experience that’s both effortlessly luxurious and deeply soulful.
Looking for a Family Friendly Walking Safari?
Lalibela Wildlife Centre offers a family friendly walking safari experience to compliment your clients’ safari.
Immersive Soft Walking Safaris for the Whole Family
If your clients are asking for a safari that’s immersive but not intense, Lalibela Wildlife Reserve in South Africa’s Malaria Free Eastern Cape offers a gentle alternative: soft walking safaris with plains game, (non predator walks) designed with families in mind.
These guided bush walks aren’t about looking for big game on foot—they’re about slowing down, tuning in, and experiencing the wild in a way that’s safe, educational, and surprisingly tranquil. Think giraffes in the distance, fresh tracks in the sand, and guides who know how to make every moment engaging for both kids and adults.
So what does a typical walk look like?
Guests set out in the early morning or late afternoon, when temperatures are mild and wildlife is most active. Walks are kept to a manageable 1–2 hours, covering flat terrain with frequent stops for storytelling, tracking, and observation. Guides carry radios and rifles for safety, but the focus is on quiet connection—not confrontation.
Children might be invited to identify spoor (tracks), learn how to spot a dung beetle rolling, which they find fascinating, or listen for the call of a distant fish eagle. Adults might find interest in medicinal plants, termite mounds, or the signs that reveal animals passed through earlier. It’s a sensory experience—smelling leaves, touching bark, hearing the sounds of the bushveld and your footsteps.
Walks are tailored to suit different age, energy levels and interests. Some families prefer a short loop near the lodge, while others opt for a slightly longer route that ends with a scenic lookout or bush coffee stop. The pace is gentle, and the emphasis is always on safety, curiosity, and shared discovery.
For agents looking to offer clients a safari that’s both enriching and accessible, Lalibela’s soft walking safaris are a standout option. It’s a chance for families to connect—with nature, with each other, and with a slower rhythm that’s easy to fall in love with.

Lemala Camps & Lodges Acquires Tulia Amboseli Safari Camp, Kenya
Lemala Camps & Lodges Acquires Tulia Amboseli Safari Camp, Kenya
The Amboseli-based camp will retain its name and identity while benefiting from Lemala’s operational excellence and commitment to sustainable safari experiences.
Arusha, Tanzania – Lemala Camps and Lodges, a distinguished member of the Tourvest Integrated Tourism Group and a premier safari accommodation provider across East Africa, is pleased to announce the acquisition of Tulia Amboseli Safari Camp, located just outside Kenya’s Amboseli National Park.
This strategic expansion marks Lemala’s entry into Kenya, enhancing its regional footprint and reinforcing its commitment to preserving the character, culture, and conservation value of East Africa’s diverse landscapes.
Positioned just beyond the borders of Amboseli National Park, with sweeping views of Mount Kilimanjaro and close proximity to the area’s well-known elephant herds, Tulia Amboseli Safari Camp has long been a preferred destination for travellers seeking an authentic blend of charm, connection, and natural immersion.
While now operating under Lemala’s stewardship, Tulia will retain its name and brand identity, with no immediate plans for rebranding. Guests can continue to expect the thoughtful and immersive experiences Tulia is known for, now further enhanced by Lemala’s operational expertise and values of low-impact, community-integrated hospitality.
“We are thrilled to welcome Tulia Amboseli into the Lemala family,” said Leanne Haigh, CEO of Lemala Camps & Lodges. “Amboseli is one of Africa’s most evocative destinations, and Tulia is perfectly positioned to offer intimate, memorable safari experiences. This acquisition strengthens our presence in the region while reflecting our long-standing commitment to sustainability and local partnerships.”
“We are particularly pleased to be growing our portfolio through acquisition rather than increasing the number of beds in Amboseli,” Haigh added. “This approach allows us to honour the integrity of the ecosystem while supporting conservation-minded tourism growth.”
Lemala is also pleased to continue its collaboration with Barry McGonigle, Tulia’s founder and a long-standing resident of Amboseli. Barry remains active in the area, operating Kilimanjaro Balloon Safaris, one of the region’s leading aerial experiences.
“We’re honoured to maintain our relationship with Barry,” the Lemala team added. “His deep knowledge of Amboseli and close relationships within the local community are invaluable. We look forward to building on the strong foundation he has created—with respect and purpose.”

Lemala Osonjoi Lodge - Now Open!
Lemala Camps and Lodges proudly announce Osonjoi Lodge officially OPEN TODAY !
Reimagining The Safari Model on the Ngorongoro Crater
Travel Promoters is delighted to reveal the first images from the opening of Osonjoi Lodge today !
The latest opening from Lemala Camps & Lodges is its most ambitious yet: a solar-powered, community-driven hideaway that pairs African-alpine design with rare access to the Ngorongoro Crater floor and new multi-day experiences.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tanzania - July 16, 2025 - Lemala Camps and Lodges is proud to officially unveil its latest property Lemala Osonjoi Lodge, a bold new chapter in high-altitude, low-impact travel across East Africa’s most storied terrain. Perched nearly 2,500 meters above sea level on the picturesque eastern rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, the landmark property blends next-generation safari luxury with deep-rooted sustainability and unrivaled access to one of the world’s most celebrated wildlife sanctuaries.
The most exciting new lodge on the Crater rim in more than a decade, Lemala Osonjoi is an instant icon and sets a fresh benchmark for hospitality in East Africa. Conceived in collaboration with local communities and designed to echo the quiet rhythms of the highlands, the lodge is shaped as much by altitude, mist, and moss as by the wildlife below.
“Osonjoi was created to feel like it belongs here, not imposed on the landscape, but emerging naturally from it” says Leanne Haigh, CEO of Lemala Camps & Lodges. “This is a retreat for travellers seeking depth as well as comfort. An experience that is slower, more intuitive, and grounded in place.”
A LOCATION LIKE NO OTHER
Set on the eastern rim of Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater, at nearly 2,500 metres above sea level, Lemala Osonjoi boasts one of the most enviable positions in African safari geography. Just outside the eponymous Lemala Gate, and perched above the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, the lodge offers guests privileged access to one of the most biodiverse, visually spectacular ecosystems on the continent. Guests can reach the Crater floor and its lion prides in just 20 to 25 minutes via the least-used descent road, placing guests among the first to reach the Crater floor each morning, when wildlife sightings are at their peak - and allows for later departure to take advantage of the beautiful evening light, known by the world’s most renowned photographers as Africa’s golden hour. This quieter northeastern quadrant of the Crater is less visited than the western arc and is ideal for photographers and those seeking intimate, unhurried encounters with nature and rare species including black rhino, elephants, and big cats.
Lemala Osonjoi is a sanctuary within a sanctuary, a UNESCO World Heritage Site layered with geological, ecological, and cultural significance. The lodge’s location also allows for an exceptionally rare treat: fully catered private lunches on the Crater floor, transforming a traditional game drive into an immersive, all-day adventure with no need to return to camp.
WHERE ARCHITECTURE MEETS ALTITUDE
Each of the property’s 20 suites, including two two-bedroom family suites, is a celebration of Ngorongoro’s high-altitude beauty. Interiors balance warmth and refinement with hand-finished timbers, pigmented cement, charred wood cladding, and panoramic windows that embrace the region’s cool mountain climate. Thoughtful touches include slow-burning wood stoves, winter-weight duvets, hot water bottles, and a signature “secret nook” daybed tucked beside the fireplace for afternoon reading or a nightcap with views over the forest.
En suite bathrooms offer walk-in showers, freestanding tubs with panoramic views, and double vanities, while the lodge’s central pavilion houses a curated library, and an expansive outdoor deck with a roaring fire and endless sky.
Menus at Osonjoi Lodge celebrate the seasonality of the highlands, while design elements, such as volcanic glassware, handwoven throws, and ceramics crafted by women’s cooperatives embed a tactile sense of place throughout.
BUILT FOR THE FUTURE
More than just a design-forward lodge, Lemala Osonjoi Lodge is a model for regenerative safari tourism. Fully off-grid and powered by solar, the lodge is constructed using recycled and local materials, with no single-use plastics. From the outset, the lodge has prioritized community partnership - working hand in hand with local artisans to design and create décor that reflects the traditions, colors, and textures of East Africa. This approach ensures no displacement, fosters active collaboration with neighboring Maasai villages, and embeds long-term investment in education, local employment, and women’s empowerment.
By encouraging longer, more immersive multi-day stays and helping to disperse visitation across lesser-used access points, Osonjoi Lodge plays a key role in mitigating overtourism in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Guided crater rim walks with Maasai naturalists, wellness treatments, the Crater’s only indoor heated pool in the forest spa suite, and culture-focused programming allow for authentic, layered experiences beyond the safari vehicle.
COMPLETING THE LEMALA CIRCUIT
Osonjoi Lodge completes the Lemala’s Lodge safari circuit through northern Tanzania, linking with Hamerkop House in Arusha, Mpingo Ridge Lodge in Tarangire, and Nanyukie Lodge and Kuria Hills Lodge in the Serengeti. This thoughtfully designed route offers seamless overland or fly-in itineraries, designed for discerning travelers seeking depth, continuity, and minimal environmental impact.
Rates at Lemala Osonjoi Lodge start from $690 (approx. £510 / €590) per person sharing per day, including accommodation, all meals, house drinks, Wi-Fi and laundry. Rates do not include NCAA Entry and Concession Fees, game drives, airstrip transfers, champagne, and premium house drinks, or government levies.

Sala Beach House - making waves in Sustainability
We are excited to congratulate Sala Beach House in achieving their Fair Trade Tourism Certified Status in recognition of their outstanding sustainability initiatives.
Sala Beach House achieves Fair Trade Tourism Certification
Sustainability is a way of life at Sala Beach House. Their commitment to responsible tourism and ethical hospitality has recently earned them the prestigious Fair Trade Tourism Accreditation, a testament to their dedication to making a positive impact on people, the planet, and the community.
“‘Fair Trade Tourism’s globally recognised, independently verified certification is awarded to tourism businesses that demonstrate a genuine commitment to using tourism to benefit local people, safeguard the environment, and support destination development priorities. Sala Beach House and Spa has met these rigorous standards across key areas of sustainability, including fair employment, local social and economic benefits, as well as responsible environmental practices’ ”
Sala Beach House has embraced the principles of Fair Trade Tourism, striving to create a welcoming and sustainable retreat where guests can relax and enjoy exceptional experiences. Sustainability is at the core of everything they do. Their operations focus on continuous improvement, efficiency, and a deep respect for the social, cultural, economic, and environmental impact of their actions.
From the beginning, Sala has had a genuine commitment to ethical and sustainable practices and these remain an ongoing journey. Among their practices are:
Solar Power
Sala Beach House has installed a solar power system that provides electricity to power the entire property. This system reduces the need for grid electricity, which in turn reduces the carbon footprint of the restaurant.
Grey Water usage
Grey water from the property is used to flush toilets and for irrigating the tropical gardens. This reduces the amount of freshwater needed for these purposes and helps conserve water.
On Site Herb Kitchen
Reduced Plastic Usage
Sala Beach House has made a conscious effort to reduce our use of single use plastics.
Composting and waste reduction
The kitchen waste generated by the restaurant is composted to create nutrient-rich soil for the vegetable and general garden areas. This reduces the amount of organic waste that would otherwise go to landfill and provides valuable nutrients for the gardens. Paper, plastic and glass are recycled.
Rehabilitation and coastal dune vegetation
As part of the construction of the property, Sala Beach House rehabilitated the coastal dune vegetation and eradicated invasive specifies in the gardens. This helps protect the local ecosystem and promotes biodiversity.
