Triple Win for Kaelo Destinations in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards
Travel Promoters is delighted to congratulate Kaelo Destinations on a standout performance in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards, with three recognitions across their exceptional collection of African destinations.
Mashatu Game Reserve, Euphorbia Mashatu and Pambele Beach House Recognised in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards
Travel Promoters is delighted to congratulate Kaelo Destinations on a standout performance in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards, with three recognitions across their exceptional collection of African destinations.
Euphorbia Mashatu ranked fourth among the World’s Best Resorts in the Rest of Africa category, with Mashatu Game Reserve also recognised in the same category. Pambele Beach House was recognised in the Central and Eastern Africa category.
Announced on 6 October 2026, Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards remain one of the industry’s longest‑running reader‑led accolades. This year’s results were informed by more than 798,867 survey responses, with readers rating the travel experiences they value most and the places they look forward to returning to.
Located in Botswana’s Northern Tuli region, Mashatu is a vast privately owned wilderness defined by dramatic sandstone formations, ancient trees and exceptional wildlife. Known as the Land of Giants, the reserve offers immersive safari experiences shaped by conservation, low‑density tourism and expert guiding. Euphorbia Mashatu, the flagship lodge, is an architectural statement of eight private villas welcoming up to an exclusive sixteen guests.
Overlooking Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago, Pambele Beach House offers an exclusive‑use coastal retreat within the Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary. Its four‑villa layout, understated barefoot luxury and bespoke hospitality are complemented by the remarkable marine and land‑based wildlife of the region.
For the travel trade, these accolades offer trusted third‑party recognition from one of the world’s most respected travel publications and its influential readership. For those recommending Mashatu and Pambele to discerning clients, this acknowledgement further affirms the quality and distinctiveness of the experiences within the Kaelo Destinations portfolio.
The recognition also reflects the dedication of the people behind these destinations. From guides and trackers to the conservation and hospitality teams, their knowledge, commitment and care shape the quality of every stay.
“We are proud that the various properties within our collection have all been acknowledged by such a highly respected international publication. We extend our sincerest thanks to every reader who took the time to cast their vote, and to the exceptional teams across our Kaelo Destinations portfolio.”
These three recognitions mark an important moment for Kaelo Destinations as the collection continues to strengthen its international presence while remaining grounded in the values that define it.
The Leopards of Mashatu
Meet the leopards that have made Mashatu the 'Land of Leopards'
We’ve shared the latest blog from Mashatu Game Reserve about their captivating leopards:
Find out why Mashatu is dubbed the 'Land of Leopards' - where guests regularly encounter these magnificent cats throughout the reserve, often witnessing several individuals during a single stay.
For generations, Mashatu has been known as the Land of the Giants — a vast private wilderness shaped by ancient elephant paths and home to some of Southern Africa’s most remarkable giants. But spend time here and another reputation quickly emerges.
The Land of Leopards.
Leopards are woven into the Mashatu safari experience. Guests regularly encounter these magnificent cats throughout the reserve, often seeing several individuals during a single stay. And with every sighting comes the opportunity to look a little closer — to recognise a familiar face, learn a name and begin to understand the individual behind the spots.
Because the leopards of Mashatu are not anonymous.
They have territories. Lineages. Personalities. Mothers, daughters and sons. Some are established territory holders; others are young and still finding their place. Together, their stories form a living part of the wilderness that makes Mashatu so special.
The release of the award-winning documentary Mashatu: Land of Leopards in 2025 brought this hidden world to audiences far beyond Botswana, following a leopard family over three years and revealing intimate glimpses into the lives of these extraordinary cats. The film has now added a third accolade to its growing list of recognition, receiving the Heinz Sielmann Film Award at the 2026 GREEN SCREEN Festival.
While the film introduced some of these remarkable cats to audiences around the world, there is nothing quite like encountering them here — in the wilderness they call home.
So, meet some of the leopards of Mashatu.
Mohoyo
Male | Meaning “Fig Tree”
Fully grown and aged 10 or more, Mohoyo is the dominant territorial male of Mashatu’s central area. His name means Fig Tree in the local language, a fitting reminder of the way the landscape itself often becomes part of a leopard’s identity.
Mohoyo was once known for being particularly shy, but these days he is far more tolerant of the vehicles that follow his movements. Still, he has retained his reputation for being somewhat unfriendly — perhaps an understandable characteristic for a male who has spent years defending his territory.

Euphorbia
“Candelabra tree”
Euphorbia, aged six years, is named after the distinctive Candelabra tree, as he was born during the time Euphorbia Mashatu lodge was built.
Today, he occupies the northern section of the reserve and is most often seen by guests staying at Tent Camp. His name is a small reminder of how deeply the leopards of Mashatu are connected to their surroundings.
Lepako
Meaning - “Big fallen-over dead tree”
At just three and a half years old, Lepako is still finding his way. His name means big fallen-over dead tree — the place where his mother gave birth to him.
Unlike the established territorial males, Lepako is currently nomadic, moving across the reserve as he searches for a place of his own. He is still finding his feet, learning the landscape and, ultimately, trying to establish a territory he can claim as his own. His story is one of transition — a young male on the threshold of adulthood, with an entire wilderness still ahead of him.
White Cliff’s Female
A legacy continued
At 13 years old, White Cliff’s female is the third generation of territorial female leopard in the White Cliff’s area.
She is also the twin sister of Motswiri.
Her story represents something larger than one individual: a lineage of territorial females continuing through the landscape, generation after generation.
Motswiri
meaning - “Lead wood tree”
If one leopard has become synonymous with Mashatu: Land of Leopards, it is Motswiri.
Her name means Lead wood tree in Setswana, and at 13 years old, she is a seasoned female who knows her territory intimately.
Motswiri is particularly skilled at hunting impala in the wild sage — an environment where her stealth and patience give her the advantage.
She is also the twin sister of White Cliff’s female, linking two of Mashatu’s established females through the same family story.
For three years, cameras followed Motswiri and her family for the documentary Mashatu: Land of Leopards, offering an extraordinary glimpse into a world that most people would rarely, if ever, see.
Moshoole
meaning “Fever Berry tree”
At 13 years old, Moshoole is named after the Fever Berry tree.
She is the mother of Lepako, the young nomadic male still searching for his own territory.
Their stories therefore remain connected — mother and son sharing the same landscape, while living very different chapters of their lives.
Ma-Tuli
— guardian of her territory
The age of Ma-Tuli is unknown, but her territory is well established.
She is the territory holder in and around Tuli Safari Lodge, where the landscape has become her domain.
Graham’s Tree Female
A mother and daughter story
At nine years old, Graham’s Tree female takes her name from a massive Mashatu tree that serves as a landmark within her territory.
She is the daughter of the late Mathoja female and the mother of Lerato, making her another important link in the reserve’s leopard lineage.
Her story continues through her daughter, who is now beginning to establish a territory of her own.
Lerato
meaning “love”
At three and a half years old, Lerato represents what comes next. Her name means Love in Setswana.
She is the daughter of Graham’s Tree female and Mohoyo male — bringing together two established bloodlines of Mashatu’s leopard population.
Still young and nomadic, Lerato is now busy establishing her own territory.
A land written in leopard tracks
These are only some of the leopards that call Mashatu home.
Territories change hands. Cubs grow into adults. Young males leave their mothers in search of a place of their own. Established females pass their knowledge and bloodlines into the next generation.
This is what makes seeing a leopard at Mashatu so much more meaningful. It isn’t simply the thrill of spotting one of Africa’s most elusive big cats. It is knowing that the tracks in the sand belong to an animal with a territory, a lineage and a story. That the silhouette beneath a tree might be Mohoyo, Kanda, Motswiri or Lerato. That the leopard watching from the riverbed is an individual you may come to recognise by name.
As Botswana celebrates 60 years of independence this week, there is perhaps no better time to celebrate the conserved landscapes and remarkable wildlife that roam freely and form part of the country’s natural heritage.
We invite you to journey to Mashatu and perhaps, somewhere among the ancient trees, golden grass and rocky outcrops of the Land of the Giants, you will meet one of the cats that has made Mashatu famous as the Land of Leopards.
To begin planning the ultimate leopard safari in Botswana:
One Month On: Celebrating Shearzone Safaris' Nzovu Rundu Luxury Camp
It's been just over a month since Shearzone Safaris officially opened the doors of Nzovu Rundu Luxury Camp, and we couldn't be prouder of what the team has achieved.
It's been just over a month since Shearzone Safaris officially opened the doors of Nzovu Rundu Luxury Camp, and we couldn't be prouder of what the team has achieved.
Nzovu Rundu is Shearzone's second property in Zambia, following Mozhi Bush Camp in Kafue National Park, and it's a fitting next step for a company that continues to expand thoughtfully across some of Zambia's finest wilderness areas.
Set on the Nkalange Channel in the Lower Zambezi, Nzovu Rundu overlooks one of Zambia's most rewarding safari landscapes, known for its walking safaris, canoe trails and dense elephant populations along the river.
Since opening on 17 July 2026, the camp has settled beautifully into its surroundings, offering guests ten chalets: eight Luxury Pods for couples and solo travellers, and two Rundu Grand Pods designed for families and groups. Each comes with a private plunge pool, air-conditioning and an outdoor shower, giving guests a comfortable base between game drives, walks and canoe outings.
Nzovu Rundu also marks the start of a bigger story. Shearzone's expansion plans extend well beyond the Lower Zambezi and Kafue, with new camps planned in North and South Luangwa as the company continues to build out its presence across Zambia's premier safari regions. It's an exciting portfolio to watch, and one we're delighted to be part of.
Shearzone also operates its own Cessna charter fleet across Zambia, making it simple for agents to combine Nzovu Rundu with Mozhi Bush Camp or other Zambian circuits on a single, effortless itinerary.
A month in, Nzovu Rundu is already proving itself a wonderful addition to the Lower Zambezi, and we look forward to sharing more as Shearzone's journey continues.

Further From the Lodge, Closer to the Bush: Introducing the Ol Lentille Fly Camp
Ol Lentille’s introduces their newest offering - Fly Camping.
Adding a remote, community‑owned wilderness experience as part of a luxury Kenya safari in Laikipia.
Ol Lentille has always been defined by its contrasts: spectacular views from Laikipia’s highest ridges, complete privacy in four beautifully designed villas, and deeply rooted cultural connections with the Maasai and Samburu communities who own the land and the lodge. Guests come for the luxury, yes — but they stay for the feeling of being part of something rare, remote, and profoundly authentic.
Today, Ol Lentille introduces a new way to experience its 40,000 acres of wilderness: the Ol Lentille Fly Camp.
This is safari stripped back to its most meaningful elements — still comfortable, still hosted with care, but intentionally closer to the earth, the night sky, and the stories that have shaped this landscape for generations.
A Camp Hidden in the Conservancy
The Fly Camp sits in a secret corner of the conservancy, chosen for its views, its solitude, and its sense of discovery. It’s rustic in the right ways and comfortable where it matters.
What guests can expect:
A simple, scenic camp set up exclusively for one group at a time
A full bar for sundowners and a hearty barbecue dinner
A classic bucket shower and short-drop loo
The night sky of northern Kenya — vast, bright, and uninterrupted
The soundtrack of the bush after dark
It’s an experience that feels both timeless and grounding, reminiscent of old-school safari nights under canvas.
A Cultural Connection You Won’t Find Anywhere Else
Ol Lentille’s partnership with its Maasai and Samburu neighbours is central to everything the lodge does — and the Fly Camp is no exception.
During the evening:
Local elders join guests around the campfire, sharing stories, traditions, and the oral histories passed down through generations
A Maasai star reader — part of a lineage of celestial interpreters — guides guests through the night sky, explaining how stars have long been used to understand past events and anticipate those yet to come
It’s an intimate, absorbing encounter with culture that is still lived, still practiced, and still deeply respected.
Morning in a Wild, Untouched Corner of Laikipia
Before sunrise, guests head out on an early morning game drive in a seldom-visited part of the conservancy. Wildlife is at its most active, and the sense of exploration is palpable — this is Ol Lentille at its rawest and most beautiful.
How Fly Camping Works
Available only for stays of 3 nights or more
Booked for one night, usually mid-stay
Two guest tents accommodating up to 4 guests
Exclusive use — one group at a time
Your guide and armed askaris stay at camp overnight
$1000 per camp, regardless of guest numbers
Access by foot or vehicle — both options feel like a small adventure
A detailed Fly Camp brochure is available, and the team is ready to answer any questions.

Bushtops Safari Camps: Private Game Drive Vehicles
Bushtops Safari Camps share an update on their private game drive vehicles across all three camps.
Private Game Drive Vehicles:
A quick reminder that a private game drive vehicle is the Bushtops standard for all non-solo bookings.
Importantly, this is not just a 2026 anniversary benefit — it is confirmed for all future bookings going forward.
When Bushtops receive a booking, they will still ask agents whether their guests would like to enjoy a private vehicle or share with other guests, allowing them to plan accordingly.
For solo travellers, Bushtops will continue to combine guests with other solo travellers or guests who are happy to share. If there are no other solo travellers or guests wishing to share, a solo traveller may have sole use of a vehicle by default but this is only known on the day of the arrival. Should a solo traveller prefer a private vehicle and requires this to be confirmed, the supplement is USD 400 for Mara Bushtops and USD 500 for Serengeti Bushtops per night.
Solo travellers do not pay a supplement for a private game drive vehicle at Roving Bushtops.
Please note that airstrip transfer may occasionally be shared depending on operational requirements.
6 x 6 Beest Safari Vehicles:
Bushtops are now happy to report they have a fleet of four 6 x 6 Beests available as follows:
* 2 in Tanzania at Serengeti Bushtops
* 2 in Kenya at Mara Bushtops
The Beest supplement is USD 1,000 per day and is bookable for the entire stay.

Lemala Kuria Hills Complete Renovations
Lemala Camps & Lodges has completed the renovation of Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge in the Serengeti, introducing a new two bedroom family suite, a relocated spa and an expanded main dining tent.
Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge: Recent Property Enhancements
Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge has been undergoing a series of practical upgrades aimed at improving comfort, efficiency and guest flow, while keeping the lodge’s established character and connection to the Northern Serengeti landscape.
What’s Been Updated
Dining Tent The main dining tent has been redesigned and completed. It now offers more indoor space and a better layout, supported by a live cooking station and a new butler station.
The changes improve service flow and give guests a more functional dining environment.
Spa Relocation The spa has moved to a more convenient position within the lodge.
The new location includes updated canvas and shade netting, creating a dedicated wellness space and freeing up the former spa area for additional guest accommodation.
Solar System and Generator Upgrade A new solar system and generator set is being finalised to improve power supply and overall efficiency.
This upgrade supports long‑term sustainability and strengthens the lodge’s operational reliability.
Solar Lighting Solar lighting has replaced kerosene lanterns across the property.
This improves guest comfort and reduces environmental impact.
New Two‑Bedroom Family Unit A new two‑bedroom family unit is now complete.
It follows the style and spirit of Kuria Hills’ existing rooms but with a more modern design, larger interiors and a private plunge pool.
The layout suits families or friends travelling together who want extra space and privacy. Photography is pending.
Maintaining Kuria Hills’ Character
All updates have been designed to enhance the guest experience without changing the lodge’s identity.
Kuria Hills remains defined by its setting among granite boulders and kopjes, its glass‑fronted suites and its access to year‑round wildlife in the Northern Serengeti.
These improvements ensure guests continue to enjoy a comfortable, functional and sustainable stay while the core safari experience — the landscape, the wildlife and the quiet atmosphere — stays exactly as it should.
The Cocoon Collection’s Commitment to Community and the Next-Generation
Zanzibar’s rapid tourism growth is reshaping the island, and The Cocoon Collection is helping ensure that this progress supports local communities through the impactful work of the Sofia Luna Azzola Foundation.
Zanzibar is a destination we are all familiar with, famed for its flawlessly white sand beaches, enticingly clear water and tropical climate. As tourism in Zanzibar is increasing at a rapid pace (and there is no wonder why) there is an ever-greater responsibility to ensure that this growth benefits not only visitors, but the communities and environment that make the island so special.
The Cocoon Collection, home to six stunning resorts and islands across Zanzibar and the Maldives, is committed to creating a lasting, positive impact on the communities surrounding its properties.
At the heart of this commitment is the Sofia Luna Azzola Foundation, a non-profit organisation established by the Azzola family in Zanzibar. Since then, the foundation has helped create valuable opportunities for local children, with a mission to ensure they have access to safe, inspiring and well-equipped learning environments. Let’s take a look at their remarkable journey and the difference it continues to make: .
2016 - The foundation was established by the Azzola family
↓
2017 - Library Renovation
The Foundation began by renovating the library room at Kilindi Government Primary & Secondary School. Their mission started off strong by creating a more engaging and accessible learning space for students.
↓
2018 - Nursery Classroom Development
A nursery classroom at Kilindi School was fully renovated and equipped with teaching and learning materials, in line with government standards. The Foundation also supported the initiative by funding teachers’ salaries until 2020.
↓
2019 - Swahib Al-Huda Nursery School, Kendwa
A milestone project, the Foundation built an entirely new kindergarten and guaranteed teachers wages, school uniforms and materials for 200 children.
↓
2022 - Thaqafa Nursery School, Jendweni
A newly built nursery school was opened in Kendwa with 6 classrooms, 2 teacher’s offices, 4 standard toilets and learning & teaching materials.
↓
2023 - Pongwe Primary & Secondary School
In collaboration with the local government, the Foundation completed a comprehensive renovation.
↓
Present
The Foundation continues to support the education and well-being of Zanzibar’s local communities. The students are also hosted weekly for breakfast at Gold Zanzibar Beach House & Spa, swimming lessons are organised for children, and guests and staff visit the Nursery school twice weekly.
↓
Looking Ahead
The Foundation is currently working towards establishing a Youth Football Camp in Kendwa Village.
This incredible foundation is a powerful reminder of how travel can create meaningful change long after a guest’s stay has ended. By investing in education and creating brighter opportunities for Zanzibar’s next generation, The Cocoon Collection is building a lasting legacy that extends far beyond the luxury experience.
In the Land of Wine, We Tasted Water
Leanne and Laura give us their take on Water Tasting at Lanzerac.
Alright, don’t panic - at Lanzerac there is plenty of wine to go around, don’t you worry. But what if I told you about a new and alternative tasting trend that the wine estate is proudly promoting?
I'll admit it – when I first heard about water tasting at a vineyard I was somewhat hesitant. Surely we’re there for the wine, right? After all, this is Stellenbosch, where world-class wine is practically a way of life. Surely everyone comes here to swirl, sniff and sip vintages, not... water?
Well yes, of course. But while wine tastings, cellar tours and wine pairings are prevalent as ever, Lanzerac has added an additional completely unique experience that… dare I say it? Blew me out of the water.
And that's exactly why this experience works.
Tucked away inside The Library at the historic Lanzerac estate lies South Africa's first dedicated fine water tasting room. Led by South Africa's first certified water sommelier, Nico Pieterse, the session quickly proves that water isn't simply ‘still or sparkling’.
Instead, you're taken on a fascinating journey through six different waters from around the world, each with its own personality, story and surprisingly distinctive flavour profile.
Who knew water could be silky? Or saline? Or have a crisp minerality that lingers on the palate?
It sounds a little bonkers at first – and yes, there are a few suspicious eyebrow raises before the first glass is poured – but within minutes everyone in the room is comparing notes just as enthusiastically as they would during a wine tasting.
Starting with three still waters from across the globe, the tasting itself is relaxed, interactive and genuinely entertaining. Rather than feeling overly technical, Nico explains how geology, mineral content and the source of the water all influence what you're tasting. Suddenly, terms like texture, mouthfeel and minerality make perfect sense, even without a drop of alcohol in sight.
Then it was onto the sparkling waters – and not since Finding Nemo has anyone been so fixated as I was on inspecting bubbles! Wine lovers take note – here you can have a cheeky tipple of red too, as one of the fascinating elements Nico explores is how to pair water with wine, and how the different water properties can affect the taste.
From a travel trade perspective, it's another example of how experiences are evolving to reflect changing consumer habits. As alcohol-free lifestyles become more mainstream and travellers pay closer attention to ingredients, a guided water tasting feels surprisingly current – offering guests something fresh, educational and entirely in tune with today's wellness trends. (Nico will even tell you how to read a water bottle label like Yuka or FoodSwitch!)
Of course, guests will still come for the exceptional wines, see the beautiful vineyards and taste the fantastic food. But experiences like this give destinations an extra layer – something unexpected that they'll talk about long after returning home.
Increasingly, experiential travel isn't about ticking off landmarks; it's about collecting stories. And "I went to a water tasting in South Africa" is certainly a conversation starter!

Celebrating Rare Earth’s Well‑Deserved Recognition
From the beaches of Plettenberg Bay to the wilderness of the Northern Kruger, Rare Earth is celebrating recognition in Tripadvisor’s 2026 Travellers’ Choice Awards.
Rare Earth has always stood out for the way their teams make guests feel — welcomed, seen, and genuinely at home. So when that appreciation comes directly from travellers themselves, it carries real weight. Tripadvisor’s 2026 Travellers’ Choice Awards have once again recognised the group’s commitment to exceptional hospitality, and we’re delighted to congratulate them on these achievements.
The Old Rectory: Now Among the World’s Top 1%
A special moment for The Old Rectory Hotel & Spa in Plettenberg Bay.
Previously ranked within the top 10% of hotels worldwide, it has now earned Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best in the Small & Boutique – Africa category.
This places the property in the top 1% globally — an extraordinary milestone for a boutique hotel that continues to set the standard for thoughtful service and effortless comfort.
The Outpost & Pel’s Post: Consistently Exceptional
In the Makuleke region of the Kruger National Park, The Outpost and Pel’s Post have once again been recognised among the top 10% of hospitality businesses worldwide.
Even with The Outpost temporarily closed due to recent flooding, this acknowledgement reflects the impact the team has had on guests over many years.
Their dedication, and the stories travellers choose to share, remain a powerful reminder of what makes these remote camps so memorable.
What makes these awards meaningful is their source - real experiences, shared by travellers who took the time to review their stay. Every review contributes to this recognition, and it’s a testament to the Rare Earth teams who bring these moments to life — guides, chefs, housekeepers, maintenance teams, reservationists and managers alike.
To the Rare Earth family, congratulations on these achievements. They speak to your consistency, your care, and the way you show up for guests every day. And to every traveller who shared their experience, thank you for helping shine a light on the extraordinary people and places that make Rare Earth so special.
Kenya Trilogy Fam Trip: Journey Across Lewa, Laikipia and the Mara
Some highlight moments from the Kenya Trilogy Fam Trip earlier this year
Earlier this year, Leanne and Laura hosted a seven‑day journey across three of Kenya’s most distinctive conservancies — Lewa, Laikipia and Isaaten — a route that blends conservation, community, wildlife and deeply personal hosting. The areas all offering contrasts from the green springs and acacia trees in Lewa, the rocky valleys of Laikipia, and the sweeping plains of the Isaaten near the Mara.
Laura captured some of their moments on camera and Leanne chatted to us about their trip and each destination.
Sirikoi Lodge — Lewa Conservancy
Arriving into Lewa from Wilson Airport, the journey immediately begun with a forest lunch in Ngare Ndare under the trees, before continuing to Sirikoi Lodge, their home for the next two nights.
Sirikoi set the tone for the trip: tranquil, green, and incredibly personal. The lodge’s spring attracted constant plains game, and the group was welcomed by Nditu, the resident giraffe rescued as a three‑day‑old calf. Days were filled with rhino sightings, acacia forests, community visits, and time with Sue, whose warmth and authenticity shaped the atmosphere of the lodge.

Ol Lentille — Laikipia
A short Tropic Air hop carried the group north into Laikipia’s wild beauty. The change from Lewa to Laikipia was so quick and different — mountains, rocks, valleys and wildflowers after recent rains. Ol Lentille quickly became the emotional centre of the trip. The hosting was deeply personal, the community interactions meaningful, and the activities — camel safaris, dry riverbed walks, village visits, and a sunrise summit of Laikipia’s tallest hill — all so unforgettable.

Mara Bushtops — Isaaten Conservancy
The final stop brought the group into the Mara area, arriving at Siana Airstrip before driving through the Isaaten Conservancy to Mara Bushtops. Despite heavy rains, the wildlife delivered prime sightings in the Mara Reserve, sundowners with Maasai dancers, and evenings spent stargazing or relaxing at the spa.

Thank you to all who joined and hosted
Kenya’s strength lies not only in its wildlife, but in its people and diverse landscapes. Thank you to everyone who joined Travel Promoters on this wonderful adventure, we hope you are now better able to understand and feel the value of each of these unique and incredibly special destinations. To our wonderful hosts and teams at Sirikoi, Ol Lentille and Mara Bushtops - thank you for sharing your piece of heaven with this group.
Sirikoi Lodge: An Oasis of Green in Lewa Conservancy
Leanne talks about her recent visit to Sirikoi and the stand out moments that make it such an unforgettable destination.
Leanne talks us through her recent visit to Sirikoi and the moments that stood out for her as a guest experience.
Sirikoi has a way of settling over you the moment you arrive. Even though access was easy — a quick flight into Lewa Downs and a scenic detour through Ngare Ndare Forest for lunch — the real welcome happened at the lodge itself. The spring was alive with plains game, the lawns impossibly green, and Nditu, the resident giraffe, wandered over as if she’d been waiting for us. Sixteen years on from being rescued as a three‑day‑old calf, she is still a firm part of the Sirikoi family.
The lodge atmosphere is exactly what guests hope for but rarely find. Open decks that invite guests to stay, quiet corners, acacia trees full of birdlife — everything spaced out just enough to give privacy without losing the sense of being part of a shared space. Sue joining us for drinks on the first night, and then dinner the next, reinforced that feeling. She’s warm, humble, and wonderfully real. Knowing she spent most of her life living in a tent explains a lot about Sirikoi’s grounded, unpretentious character.
Game drives in Lewa were a highlight, especially the rhino sightings — more than we saw anywhere else on the trip. The terrain is beautiful: rolling hills, pockets of acacia forest, valleys that open into wide plains. Onesmus (Ness), Sonita and Ngila guided us, dressed in Maasai attire that added a refreshing touch of culture to the experience. With only around 30 vehicles across the conservancy, sightings are never crowded.
A visit to the Lewa Ops Centre added depth to the stay. Monica’s overview of how they monitor elephant and rhino movements across Lewa and Borana was impressive and a reminder of how much quiet work goes into keeping these landscapes safe. Sirikoi’s involvement with The Long Run and community initiatives is extensive.
Food at Sirikoi deserves its own mention. Fresh, wholesome, creative and largely sourced from the garden, it was consistently excellent. The team handled gluten‑free requirements effortlessly, producing muffins, breads and biscuits that tasted no different from the originals. Chef Machario’s 15 years at Sirikoi show in every dish.
Activities flowed naturally: a walk in Ngare Ndare Forest, lunch set up beautifully under the trees, a visit to Leparua village with singing, dancing and traditional games, and a gentle walk with ranger Ibrahim to the waterfalls. Each moment felt unforced and authentic.
Accommodation in the family tent was comfortable and spacious, with bathrooms that felt far more substantial than a typical tented option. Hot water bottles at night were a welcome touch in Lewa’s cooler evenings.
Sirikoi is peaceful, genuine and deeply connected to its surroundings. It’s the kind of lodge where guests feel part of daily life rather than observers — a rare quality that sets it apart.
Ol Lentille: Visiting Laikipia’s Landscape and Community
The second stop on the Kenya Trilogy Fam Trip earlier this year was Ol Lentille, where Leanne and Laura shared their notes on what made this experience stand out.
The second stop on the Kenya Trilogy Fam Trip earlier this year was Ol Lentille, where Leanne shared her notes on what made this experience stand out.
Ol Lentille — the place that crept into everyone’s hearts. The shift from Lewa’s rolling hills to Laikipia’s dramatic mountains and rocky valleys was immediate the moment we landed at their private airstrip. After recent rains, the conservancy was dotted with wildflowers, and the drive to the lodge felt like a scenic game drive on arrival.
The atmosphere at Ol Lentille is shaped by its views. Every house, every deck, every communal space seems to frame the landscape in a different way. The lodge runs almost entirely on solar power, something you only truly appreciate once you see how remote and elevated the houses are. There are steps and rocky paths between them, but it all makes sense — the views wouldn’t exist without the elevation.
What sets Ol Lentille apart is the people. Solomon, Boni and Isaac brought us into their world with a sincerity that’s hard to describe. As an example, we met Felix’s mother by chance while she was tending goats and beading her necklace, and the next day we met his little boy on his way to school. These weren’t staged moments; they were simply part of daily life, shared openly. You are welcomed into their lives, where they have grown up and you feel how everyone knows everyone and supports each other.
Wildlife sightings were memorable — wild dogs twice in one morning, a kill later that day, kudu, zebra, elephants, and the soundtrack of hyena and lions at night.
But it was the community experiences that defined the stay. The visit to St Anne Nosirai School was emotional. Built through the Ol Lentille Trust, it has grown from 30 children to 542. Their welcome song was heartfelt, and conversations with the senior class were genuine and curious.
The manyatta visit offered insight into daily life, roles within the home, and traditions like sterilising goat milk containers with smoke. The local Tuesday market was vibrant and full of character, giving a glimpse into the rhythm of northern Kenya.
Activities were varied and meaningful: a dry riverbed walk followed by a bush breakfast, camel riding with Edward (who spoke to the camels like they were his children), bead‑making with Tina, a picnic under a fig tree, and a sunrise climb to Ol Lentille Peak — Laikipia’s tallest hill. Sundowners on Flat Rock were unforgettable, and the Samburu dancing at the boma dinner added a celebratory close to the day. Ending the night with The Lion King under the stars, complete with s’mores and popcorn, was a charming touch.
Food was fresh, healthy and full of homemade elements — granola, yoghurt, jams. Chef Lazarus delivered consistently good meals, with only one dish slightly overdone. Hosting throughout was exceptional, blending professionalism with genuine warmth.
Accommodation varied across the houses. Acacia South was spacious but warm due to limited windows, while other houses had unique layouts that suited different travellers. Regardless of the house, privacy and views were guaranteed.
Ol Lentille is a place of connection — to land, to people, to community. It’s the kind of lodge that leaves travellers quiet on departure, processing the experience. It stayed with everyone long after we left.
Mara Bushtops: Visiting Private Conservancy Luxury
Leanne shares her notes on her recent visit to Mara Bushtops with the fam trip earlier this year.
Siana Airstrip welcome set up
For the final stop on the Kenya Trilogy Fam Trip earlier this year, the group ended their journey in complete luxury and calm of the Isaaten Private Conservancy. Leanne shares her stay with us.
Beautiful Mara - From even before we arrived - the experience felt elevated - landing at Siana Airstrip to a beautifully set‑up tent with sofas, drinks, snacks and spotless facilities. Three vehicles were allocated to the group, each with a driver and spotter, and the drive to camp doubled as a game drive.
The lodge feels more established than its Serengeti counterpart. Tents are closer together, but the views remain wide and open. The salt lick is a focal point, drawing wildlife throughout the day. Lawrence welcomed us with champagne and snacks, and lunch under the tree overlooking the salt lick — complete with a live camera feed — was a fun touch that the group loved.
A tour of the garden with Alfred was wonderful. His pride in the mangoes, pawpaws and granadilla vines was great to witness, and the garden itself was neat, colourful and beautifully maintained.
Despite heavy rains and a few change in plans, the wildlife delivered. The conservancy is rich in giraffe and zebra thanks to its trees, while the Mara Reserve offered classic big‑game viewing. The guiding team was exceptional — knowledgeable, intuitive and calm. Rain prevented a night drive, but sundowners with Maasai dancers overlooking camp were a highlight before the weather turned.
Food at Mara Bushtops was generous and varied. The “Tastes of Home” menu offered comfort, while the main menu provided an extensive restaurant‑style selection. The group loved the choice. Snacks on drives — especially the nuts — were a hit.
The spa was a welcome retreat. A quick facial proved excellent, and drinks at the spa on the final night were memorable, with Orion constellation lights shimmering in the pool before the rain returned once again.
Isaaten Conservancy works well as a base. It offers privacy, greenery, and the option to walk or drive within the conservancy. With strong lion activity, a resident leopard and plenty of plains game, it compliments the Mara Reserve perfectly. One full day in the reserve is often enough during peak season.
Claudia and Andy joining us for dinner on the final night added a personal touch to the stay.
Accommodation was luxurious, comfortable and well‑appointed.
Mara Bushtops delivered a refined, wildlife‑rich end to the journey, balancing luxury with a strong sense of place.
Lanzerac Receives International Recognition at Tourism Film Festival
Congratulations to Lanzerac Wine Estate on winning a Silver Award at the International Tourism Film Festival Africa (ITFFA) for its beautiful film created to launch its acclaimed Pinotage coffee table book.
Last month, Lanzerac received a Silver Award at the International Tourism Film Festival Africa (ITFFA) for the film created to celebrate the launch of its acclaimed Pinotage coffee table book.
The recognition places Lanzerac among an elite group of tourism and hospitality brands honoured at one of the industry’s most respected international film festivals, which this year attracted entries from 47 countries, showcasing some of the world’s most compelling tourism and destination storytelling.
Developed in partnership with creative agency Xpotential, the award-winning film offers a poetic and visually compelling tribute to Pinotage’s unique place in South African wine history. Through evocative imagery, reflective storytelling and a deep sense of place, the film honours the people, landscapes and legacy that have shaped South Africa’s signature varietal and Lanzerac’s enduring connection to it.
The International Tourism Film Festival Africa celebrates excellence in tourism communication, destination marketing and branded storytelling, recognising productions that successfully connect audiences to places, people and experiences through authentic and emotionally resonant narratives.
“This recognition is a proud achievement for our estate and for everyone who contributed to bringing this story to life,” said Emile Langehoven, Lanzerac’s General Manager. “Pinotage is woven into the fabric of South African wine heritage, and this project gave us an opportunity to celebrate that legacy in a meaningful and enduring way. To receive recognition on an international stage alongside entries from 47 nations is both an honour and a testament to the power of authentic storytelling.”
The sentiment is echoed by Lizanne Vos, CEO of Xpotential, whose team led the creative development of the film. “Our objective was to create a film that captured not only the history of Pinotage, but also the emotion, character and sense of place that surround it. This award reflects the strength of the story itself and the collaborative partnership that brought it to life.”
The accolade further reinforces Lanzerac’s position as one of South Africa’s most iconic wine destinations and highlights the growing importance of creative excellence in connecting heritage brands with global audiences.
Lanzerac extends its sincere appreciation to Xpotential and all creative partners whose talent, vision and dedication helped bring this story to life.
As Lanzerac continues to honour its heritage while embracing the future, this international recognition serves as further affirmation that stories rooted in authenticity, craftsmanship and a profound sense of place have the power to resonate far beyond their origins.
